Workin’ in Tokyo

I joined a couple of my co-workers to visit our Tokyo datacenters and deploy some new servers. After about a 30 minute drive form Makuhari, we stopped for quite possibly the best gyoza I have ever had. All the sushi places in the US that attempt to serve it should be ashamed. These were not some weak-ass appetizer, but a frickin’ killer lunch. The restaurant was a small hole-in-the-wall type place, where you ordered your gyoza in 3, 6, or 9 piece orders; which all came with soup and a bowl of rice. The throwing star nearly took me out while I was softly kissing the gyoza that rested in the grasp of my chopsticks. They asked me never to return.

The work was pretty straight forward. It was a rack-&-stack job of about 11 1u FreeBSD boxes…but there was a twist! Upon entering the second data center, we were told that neither our pullcart or shoes were welcome. Yes…I was loading servers in these little slippers (how dare they not have size 12.5!!!) with dresspants and a button-up shirt. Fortunately the work went well, and we were able to finish up by 8:00pm. It’s nice saying that I have finally done some international work; even if I was doing it in slippers. =)

*I expect no smart-ass comments from Hajducko.
