.Mac Evaluation

This afternoon I enrolled in a 60 day evaluation of Apple’s .Mac service. The ability to synchronize the Address Book, Calendar, and Safari Bookmarks of multiple Apple computers adds a great deal of appeal to the purchase, but the amount of online storage you receive is questionable. For $100 a year, you get the services described above, a .Mac mail account, web space, and virus protection; all of which share a combined 250 MB. In all fairness, Apple has done a great job of integrating .Mac tools into their desktop applications. One such application, iDisk, enables the user to push local files to the web via the .Mac service. This is a excellent way to centralize one’s storage…. however, with storage prices as they are, 250 MB is pretty lame.(especially for a pay service)
Either way, I’m already very satisfied with how well the synchronization works between my PowerMac and PowerBook. We’ll see how I feel about things in 59 days. ;-)
